    install fan inside DM800 12V

hi all was hopeing someone on the forum might beable to help out as ive bought a very bad dm800 clone i now have it up and running after buying an original tuner for it,now my problem is the overheating, the big chip on the main board has a heatsink on it but its not doing anything for the heat was looking to install a 12V fan im looking for somewhere to solder the 2 wires from the fan to a 12V output inside the box as the usb is very slow and dosent give the fan enough power to cool the box,any help would be great.

Wouldnt a cooling pad be a better and easier option?
Also there a two jump pins which give 5V for a smaller fan don't knwo if you could draw 12V from them..

the reason why your fan is running slow from your usb output is 12v fans use about 1w of power which is more than your usb can supply so if you were to use a say 5v fan your power consumption would drop(simple ohms law) and give you better cooling i have not done this myself as i do not have a dm800 so i would search RS or maplins for a very low power consumtion fan at 5v

yes that i know but was just wondering if there was somewhere inside the box that would give me 12V output to solder my fan onto the chip inside the box.

I got the box at Christmas, it never came with a fan, just a bass coloured heatsink, now i have put a 500gig hhd into it, so theres not much room, I have a 40mm x 40mm x 10mm (5v)fan, also bought a 12v too, and was going to attach it to the inside of the top of my box using anti vibration rubber mounts and was, also buying a splitter cable (a y cable from maplins) and attach it to my hhd connecter on the board then run the fan and hhd from it, now i thought that my hdd setting in my dreambox could turn it off (the hdd and fan) after 2mins or 10mins if i choose too, am i wrong then?

hi not to sure about the hdd and fan turning off with the settings i know there is a menu in nabilosat blackhole image that lets you stop the hdd after 5 10 mins ect when not doing anything.

                          up date:

got my 5v 40mm fan (16db) had bare wire on the ends, so i decided to use the hdd power plug that goes into the board, used a toothpick to pop out the terminals from the plug, the red 5v and the black 5V return (note its the black one next to the red wire NOT the black one next to the yellow wire, got 2 x inch long tube shrink, pulled both red wires into one the both black wire into the other soldered togther at the top of terminals, put the terminals back into the plug, then slid the tube skink down , heated it up with a lighter, plug it into the board, it works a treat and its tidy. do this at your own risk I accept no resposabilty for any damage you may cause always unplug your box and discharge any static you may have first.

                          regards Steve
