    help needed to get started

hi im new to all this sat stuff so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i currently have sly digital with no subscription so only have free to air channels.

my family are from india so they are only interested in the indian channels.

i am looking to get a motorised dish and install it my self (i have read the guide posted on here and sounds pretty straight forward)

what advantages does the linux models have over the non linux models? and is there a list of chanels that i could look at before i purchase a dish kit ?

lastly any help in finding a quality dish kit at low price would be greatly appreciated.

thanks to all of you in advance.

Hi m8,my advice on dish setup is spend a bit more than go to cheep,in long run your thank me.Indian channels you find some free 2 air or are cracked, things can change as to whats open.Receiver wise if your going for a HD one check out the Format resolution, some are not so good as others.

Your on the right track with the motorised dish.
Take a look HERE for India channels and another HERE
A decent quality dish for a low enough price, look at Triax.
Shouldn't cost you too much from the UK.
A cheap dish may only end up costing you in the long run.
An 85cm dish would be the smallest I'd go for.
Linux box's are great for patching, updating and you can generally play around with them a lot more.
TM 600 is a good linux box, other decent non-linux box for good price would be TM5400.
Lots of good info on this site to help you along.
