No HDMI sound from Revo 3600

have a little puter for the telly, an acer aspire revo R3600.
It is 95% there just as a media player, running Windows 7, XBMC, VLC, WMC etc

The unit sports two sound outputs, a stereo headphone socket, and the HDMI port.

At the moment I am using the headphone socket to 2 phono leads into the telly speakers and getting stereo sound. But I am wanting 5.1 .
I have the hdmi going to my AV Amp, a Sony 1200, then thru to my telly (just 1 DVI input) for the vision part. But I cannot get sound at all. Thru the amp that is, I know no sound goes thru DVI.

On closer inspection in Windows, I see the sound windows shows headphones, with a green tick, 2 speakers with a red cross, and hdmi with a red cross and ' not plugged in ' .

But it is plugged in, coz I am seeing the computer.

I have downloaded latest drivers from Nvidia. forget the number, but 59 on the end.

I have tried alsorts of permutations, but cannot get the sond to say 'plugged in'. Even disabling and deleting the headphone drivers.

Any Help would be greatly apreciated.

    drivers like sound vga etc.

go to desktop then aspire then aspire r3600

also pick your operating system and then you can install your drivers.

    hope this helps

also check for 3rd party software configurations of sound as well like xbmc vlc wmc make sure all
there sound settings are fine but make sure windows is above all.

Just an update, I tried a hdmi telly on the system, first straight from the computer to the telly, and surprisingly it enabled the greyed out HDMI part...
So I then went thru the AV amp again to the HDMI telly...
Again, the greyed out part was enabled.. so far so good, BUT.. only an option for 2 channels sound.
Went to acer website as recommended by reapers (thank you mate)... downloaded audio drivers, also chipset drivers (what are chipset drivers?)
Installed audio one first, and did a series of testing, cannot get audio onto amp, just 2 channel on the telly, even reset my amp to default.
installed chipset drivers too, tried again... still no joy....
I know people have/are getting good results from this R3600, but I am close to junking it for another media player.
