    Clean all the air ducts.

Dust can build up here. So when the console is off give it a good clean in all vents.

If it overheats too much the ps3 will turn itself of just like a pc.

Prob heating up quite quick and because it cannot get the air into it the and the fan is runs constantly at a high speed causing this sound.

Wont make a difference. Why not open it up and replace the fan see if that makes a difference?

Where abouts is the PS3 situated

I recently bought a new TV unit for the lounge.
And after about 5 minutes i had the same problem.
I had to remove the back of the cabinet to allow more airflow around the PS3 and i also leave the cabinet door open when playing for a long time.
Try turning it on in a cool open space like a dining table and see how long it takes for the fans to kick in
This could save you having to dismantle it which trust me is a real pain in the ass
