Soon To Be Dbox2 Owner ???

Hi All
I have just discovered this site and I'm hoping that some kind soul can point me in the right direction.
So to my Questions
1. I have been with NTL/Virginmedia for about 6 yrs and have only ever subscribed to thier broadband, so will the TV signal already be there or do they have to activate it ?
2. I know this might be down to personal preferance, but which Dbox2 is the best to go for, in regards to ease of use, support etc.
3. Apart from the cable and plugs, what extra kit will I need to get up and running, do I need a special splitter, software and what is reccomended.

WOW a bit much for a first post I know but, thanks in advance for anyone taking time out to help me here.

You've arrived at the death of the cable scene mate. Nagra3 encryption is shortly on a national rollout which will render your DBox2 useless without a N3 Virgin sub card.

Your probably better off shimmying down to the Satellite forum and getting into CS and the like.

Right, so I have a dish stuck on the side of my house, and a Sky box I never use.
Can you please apply my questions as if it where for Sat system.

Erm, it's not quite a simple as that. I'd recommend going reading up on the subject. Have a look in the Satellite forum, post for noobs etc. Also have a search on Google, there's some cracking communities out there soley dedicated to satellites.

You will only be able to pick up a single satellite with the fixed dish for Sky. You will be able to receive FTA and the free HD broadcasts if it is an HD set up but your Sky box will be little more than useless without some form of Sky sub.

Most people suggest a motorised dish set up that can effectively scan the sky for other satellites, i.e. not limited to one location.

I suggest you opt for the cheap option, a DM500S clone with a Penta 85... obviously this is dependant on your location, ask for advice on dish sizes etc.
