I wanted a DVB-S sytem to replace my Sky box (cos it keeps bleating at me to upgrade my viewing card and destroys recordings.
The best deal I found was a Fortec Star+ system from Maplins.
Mine was a reject (B) system so it cost about ?120 incuding dish, lnb, fixings, cables and a sat finder.
I set mine up 1st on the washing line pole (no ladders or drilling) to make sure it worked. I got a poor signal and couldn't receive any channels. This was a setback since the receiver worked great off my sky box (after changing the lnb settings appropriately)
I read a posting from a satellite dish fitter where he described how to adjust the slew on the lnb which increased the signal stength from 50% to 80% and the quality from 50% to 95%
A big thanks to him.
My dish is now bolted to my house and the Sky box is my secondary system (of course I don't have a contract).
