Default need help setting up dual boot on laptop

I have installed a new (bigger) hard drive on my laptop, I have managed to partition it & install Xp on the first partition (c). I now want to install XP on the second partition (e) & use my upgrade disc,s to have Windows 7 as a second operating system.

Can anyone advise me on the second install of XP, as everytime I put the disc in it says the current version is more current (have downloaded the service pack), it does not give me an option to install it onto second partition (e)??????????

you can not upgrade from xp only vista, also there is no upgrade discs for 7, all 7 discs are for a full installation of the o/s but will allow a upgrade from vista, if you have a genuine 7 disc do a clean install.

simply do as you did with your installation of xp on c drive you should be given a choice of drive which in your case will be e, may be because you are trying to install xp on both drives this is causing you the problem as dual boot normally implies to differant o/s.
you said that you will finish with 7 if thats the case then why bother with vista as all 7 discs are full installation discs.

it may say upgrade but the following link will tell you about what windows 7 will do in terms of upgrading.

Windows 7 Ultimate - Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade

i think because it says upgrade you are getting confused both vista and 7 will give you a full installation of the o/s they are not a partial install.

have you got the correct driver for your wifi device which should be listed in device manager under network adapters, if you double click on it it should list update driver from there you can then tell it where the driver is ie your disk on you pc which it should then install the drivers from it.

All sorted now, a couple of other problems where stopping the laptop finding the WiFi device, I had to disable them & then restart, it then found new hard ware, finally got onto windows update & just in the process of installing 61 important updates inc service pack.
once again thanks for all your help.
