Question Beginner Tuning Remap - 2007 VW GOLF MK5 2.0 TDI Manual

    Hello everyone,

Long time lurker on this forum, finally decided to create an account and join the community.

I am looking into basic tuning and remapping for my 2007 VW Golf MK5 2.0 TDI.

I have read quite a bit on this forum and have seen the possible gains for this engine with a stage 1 map.

My problem is i dont know where to start, i would like to remap first then in the future learn how to tune.

    I have some questions below

    REMAP ECU

    1) What tools and software do I need to remap a VW golf ecu?
    2) How do I find ECU HW and SW number
    3) I have seen a few posts on this forum for free tuning files, is it worthwhile trying?
    4) Where can i buy ECU maps?
    5) What is the process involved to remap the ecu - back up file, flash and write?

    TUNNING

    1) After some research it seems like WinOLS is the go to for editing/tuning ECUs, are there any other software's that are recommended?
    2) Any tutorials or courses recommended to learn tuning from?

Thank you in advance for your help, looking forward to contribute to this community in the future!
