Was one of those parts you have to return, think you call that 'core charge'
Didn't have one broken lying around so nothing to upload...
So, using your own words, it was a DFM who did the wire damage in the first place...with one misplaced hammer hit
That settles the (wire chaffed location) location part...

Since you forgot to mention, I'm sure it was one of those cars with beige upholstery...

    Back to the drawing board...

About to leave some place(where they fix cars)....
You hear a engine knocking (BAD) some bloke starts revving it(HARD)
    Do you
    1 Run for your life
2 Try stopping the guy from blowing the thing
3 Take a few steps back -too much smoke- and enjoy the show?

    Got away with post 272

    ON TOPIC:-

customer comes in, got no money, but has a problem with aftermarket part on his car

after cancelling and rebooking 6 times he brings it in.

you know nothing about the job, but you know what todo.

on removing the old item you notice a fitting error, you take it out
as it looks intresting for educational or entertainment purposes

yiu put it in a box & keep it safe, next day he rings up wanting old parts back.

    do you say

    1) the trash has been emptied, thought you said faulty
    2) yes sir, ill jump in tge dumpster and get it for you.

so you "get it out the dumpster" do you

    a) give him ALL the leads and plugs
    or
    b) keep one of the plugs making it useless

    what do you do?

    thanks guys.

Bloke turns up with a problem, you sort the first issuse and find a second being masked by the first.
Then find a third issuse masked by something else.

the solution is a "Wang Foo" part from ebay, this one for some reason is almost
there but not quite and in its self causes an issuse but not as bad as when it came in.

the bloke is from eastern europe, dont want to pay, but wants it fixed.

you could in a matter of 30 seconds do a quick mod behind the dash leaving
the customer with a temporay solution.

    Do you

    a) do the work so customer has a solution
    b) carry on argueing about the price

If i EVER come across a customer that comes from UK and argue about my services being more expensive than the one in UK,I'll know who to blame...
One complained that he can fix his (nonstarter) in Germany for less money
I suggested a tow truck and wished him a happy journey....

do they expect you to drop everything and do their car?

Let me put it this way...
Don't really have any issues with english language,
As 'you' have a 'tag' for 'eastern europe' people,I used to think that all english are members of AA dot org...
What can i say,all english people i encountered were...

If my customer (read victim) expect me to drop everything (including coffee)...
I usually ask politely for their wallet...somehow, all of them change their minds...
you can always inform the customer that the car that you are working on is worth for you $$$$ and if you don't do that you will loose $$$$$$$ , if he is willing to pay for that you are willing to fix his car...

Can always tell em that your motto is 'got your money now f@ck off' and insist on the first part...
If that doesn't work, insist on last part...

So a car comes in, come into the workshop because owner wants a flame thrower fitting to it.

so you mount the gas cyclinder in the trunk, run the pipe to the front, cutting as many corners as you can, you get to the
near side igniter, at which point you notice this this ALREADY has a flame thrower fitted, you look to see if you can steal anything and sell on eBay, but discover its part factory fit but with aftermarket add ons.

anyways you carry on your install, all goes well, untill you test it, where you find the other flame thrower out flames your install, then the new one flames out after 2 seconds.

you check once, twice, three times with the lady from the parts deptment, yes you have installed it correctly
need to send out guy from the factory to interrugate the unit to find out why, new product, new exciting problem.

you speak to the guy on the phone, sounds fairly young and intelligent.
he arrives after a FOUR hour journey, but is dressed like a used car sales man, complete with a pair of "shit flicker" shoes.

this guy is their "trainer" and "trouble shooter", but the guy has even less intrest than a visa card, your doing the thinking and working, he is ringing his collegue, and team viewer.

then he tells you that this product isnt as smart as you think it is.
And may be the problem is caused by the oem kit.

    do you :-

    a) blow your top as you told tech support this already
    or
    b) causally state you told the guy this the other day.

so you "both" carry on looking for the issuse, he has had simular problem with another customer, but not quite the same. You think outside the box and trace back the oem heat sensor, unplug it, BINGO fixed.

the guy, cant get his laptop away quick enough, he almost ripps the handle off the door, do you

    a) say "thanks for nothing you low life used car salesman scum"
    b) pink would have said "who knew"
    c) you better not send a bill for that.

what do you say and do?

Just love tight bastards. I live in a town where job is a four letter word and everyone over 21 has a walking stick for use in public. Audis and VWs are usually bags of shite because all the idiots want them and when they skank enough money to buy one they try to run them with no servicing and something only ever gets fixed if they haven't got a sympathetic MOT man. Eastern block are bad but guptas are even worse for not turning up when they book something in. When they do turn up they moan like fu€k on the price regardless of how much it is. If I say a price they try and bargain. I'm good at it now though, if they try and get 20 knocked off I immediately add 20 and I never come back down. As a rule they usually go then but i aint stuck for the brass so who cares. A m8 of mine had a gupta from Bradford ring up for a heater blower assembly for a landrover. Great big thing it was. He quoted the bloke 100 quid. He came over and started moaning about price. He offered 50 quid. My m8 got a hammer and smashed it to bits. The gupta was shocked and said wht did u do that. My m8 said cos ive got another and u will still be cold - now go and fu€k off. Funniest thing i ever saw.

Thats odd, word for word in Meat-City, run dmc and how bizzare.

can you loose the vat if i pay cash?

no b&q nor tesco would let me, neither did garage door man i spent £3200 with.

can you drop everything and do it now?

no, you wont explain to customer of car boojed in why its not ready.
(dont mind the "takes a week for the light to cone back on" plug in)

Lifted hood of a car the other day, no coolant in it, said nothing, did nothing
if cigar lighter worked for test probe hood would have stayed shut
