    Default Nagravision3 FAQ

For all them peeps who dont know why they have lost channels on cable tv ( can the regular members point the noobs to this thread ).

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the last 6-9 months or so virgin media has been rolling out their new encryption called n3, nag3 or its full name nagravision3 in the uk, they have done this to combat the illegal boxes, eurovox, starview, dboxes etc, the encryption is made by the world leaders in digital security, Kudelski ---> KUDELSKI GROUP > Access Emotion

Now this encryption is secure and most likely will remain so for some time to come if not ever, So that means there will be no new firmware coming out or keys that some peeps used to enter manually, a lot of the country is already fully on nag3.

For them peeps who are not on nag3 yet here is how it usually goes, first you receive a new smart card, ( providing that you already have a virgin sub ), then after a couple of weeks or so virgin start to re-arrange channels. At this stage you can normally get the channels back, but then over the next two weeks or so they slowly turn the channels off and then change over to nagravision3 stream.

At this stage no amount of scanning will bring them back. I don't think there's a set pattern to what channels they turn off first but with me in Nottingham it was the channels on the xl tv package that went first.

some people also ask "will i still get the fta channels" these are the channels that at present are available.

    BBC1
    BBC2
    BBC3 / CBBC
    BBC4 / CBEEBIES
    BBC News
    BBC Red Button (ETVS10-16)
    ITV
    ITV2+1
    ITV3+1
    ITV4+1
    CITV (ITV_hid2)
    Channel 4
    Channel 4+1
    Five
    CNBC
    some shopping channels

For some reason ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 are encrypted

But there is some light at the end of the tunnel by the way of the starview 6-7 and the kryptview A780, (A750 with an iconnector) these work by c/s, ( cardshare ).

The kryptview is the best of the two because its better supported, ( regular firmware updates ), you will have to google for info on cardshare as it cant be discussed on here for obvious reasons. If you intend going down the c/s route just remember Virgin has invested millions on their new encryption so i don't think they will stand by and let the servers run riot.

also for them sceptics who think nag3 will be cracked, maybe it will but i doubt it very much, IF it is cracked you can be sure something will be waiting to take its place.

virgin media has invested to much money in their new encryption not to have some kind of back up incase nag3 is compromised.

there is also talk of eventually going to iptv ( internet protocol tv ) which is another ball game, at this stage it is only talk.

Also read here --->http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...85/#post524693 another thread on nag3. Also look at this thread--->
    http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...tml#post791731

***( I will update this link every time the thread is updated)***

i you want a bit of advice, if i where you i would pay up to virgin or sky for a year, ( or go for a motorised sat set up 1000s of channels available ) and see what happens in the mean time, both have been doing good deals for a while now. heres some examples of virgin deals---> http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...41/#post575025

if theres anything else any one thinks should be added to this post pm me or a mod and it will be added if deemed relevent.

if any noobs are still unsure about anything in this post, post in this thread and some one will clear things up, if its anything else about a certain type of box starview, evox, dbox etc post in the revevent forum please

@gmb, as promised stuck for now, lets see how many will pay attention to it. But if members can re-direct new peeps here when they ask the usual it will help.

Other Nagra 3 threads of this nature can be amalgamated into your post (with the OP's permission) if you like. Or edit it when it is cracked

No Sky has not upgraded to Nagra 3 they have no need to as they have a very secure encryption NDS which has not been hacked, so it wouldnt matter anyways. It may be worth checking online and ringing sky and virgin to compare costs and prices and see which is cheaper for your needs.

Fta channels are encrypted as this lessens the definition of a fta receiver!

The decision on whether a channel is encrypted or not lies almost solely with the channel operator, not with the platform operator.

Why certain channels have decided to go encrypted on cable is somewhat of a mystery but its almost certainly nothing to do with VM and certainly nothing to do with the ' lessening the definition' of an fta box !!!

In fact, as long as there is even one unencrypted channel then your argument simply cannot hold.

In The given scenario, I belive digital Kaos and others should pack up and shut their sites as we can't have any support to get channels. If someone has to pay for VM or SKy then what's the purpose of such sites?
    Thanks and Regards.

Did you post this with your tongue firmly planted in your cheek?

DK and all (well most) of the other sites are not here solely so that you can get free cable. If you have a look around you'll see members discussing all sorts of stuff, from cars mechanics to satellite installations to personal problems, jokes and even the odd drunken argument.

In the States we've had Nag3 implemented for 2 1/2 years and Card Sharing and IKS have been the only alternative. Many rumors; but, no results and most have given up hope.
