I have the same interface as yours (and probably another thousands peoples ) but those pins are not shorted. Looks like you have to desolder those first and then start making changes .

    Thanks M8

been struggling to connect to vehicle at pressent,

thought i had hardware issue, but after clearing tools away
and popping back to car for a quick look, i noticed that the
16 pin OBD connecter is not fully populated, E39 1999.
i have an under bonnet adaptor arriving soon so will update once i have had a chance to test...

Thanks for your feedback , good that you have it sorted out.
Btw...what happened with the interface ? Did you removed the bridges from those pins ? What other changes you made after ?
    Thank you

i left the bridges in place, because i did try to remove them for testing but found "pcb tracks" under them so put those bridges back in..
No other changes to cable, just followed exactly what was in this thread,

    the faults i had was
a, using wrong version of inpa,
Fal sorted that for me, now using 90X version of inpa..
b, i was trying to conect to car via OBD until i looked at connector and only saw 4 pins in the obd socket,

i can confirm bridges are ok, and connected to car with
1, 409 cable with Ignition Sence & 20 pin adaptor..
2, 409 cable without Ignition Mod & 20 pin adaptor..
    Both work fine,
409 cable with ignition sense never throw "ignition on" dot on screen but still connected with car..

I need to make New 16 Pin OBD to 20 pin BMW adaptor
which has pin 1 of OBD connected to the 20 pin, so i can have Real igntion sense,
but not really nessasary, i would just like it...

I would just like to say again, that this is a FANTASTIC thread
and a big thanks to everybody for the great info
