Denmark: DAB + and DVB-T2 for digital radio

Denmark faces a difficult choice for terrestrial digital radio services. The dilemma is whether to run them in the standard DAB + and DVB-T2 . Some of those advocates, also known in this country (unfortunately only on the tests) standard, DAB +, and some prefer the DVB-T2. Since 1995 Denmark has opted for a standard DAB for digital radio. The introduction of DAB, however, would not be a good idea because some of the DAB channels using just under 192 kb / s MPEG 1 Audio Layer 2 (MP2), which gives a worse sound than is available through the FM receiver in a normal delivery. The second drawback is expensive in the network operating frequency of the DAB. You have to use more power, which are needed more and more expensive transmitters to send and receive DAB. WorldDMB organization has created a new standard for DAB + , which has better error correction (two layers). At the same time when DAB + introduces the possibility of using the audio compression standard HE-AAC , which can be up to three times more efficient. In this way, it is possible to transfer up to three times more radio channels in the same quality. Unfortunately, DAB + DAB is broadcast as the first layer of error correction, so all of the basic weaknesses of the DAB are also present in DAB +. DVB-T2 is 2.5-4 times larger than the DAB / DAB + in the same conditions of transmission. DVB-T2 is transmitted in the same band of 1.7 MHz. DAB only has a capacity of 1152 kbit / s, and DAB + is 1152 kbit / s minus 1 / 12, which is used for additional error correction, which gives the 1056 kbit / s. Transmitter DVB-T2 is able to pass 3612 kbit / s. If you want to give the 1056 kbit / s it can afford significant cost reductions. As DAB + is room for 16 stations HE-AAC, the quality of 64 kbit / s and DVB-T2 at 56 stations HE-AAC with the same quality. A satellite channel dedicated to sports news will mark the 15th anniversary of the Qatar-based Al Jazeera Network when it launches on 1 November.

The Arabic Al Jazeera Sports News channel will be the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), broadcasting hourly news bulletins and 20 sports news programmes via Egypt's Nilesat (12245 vertical).

The news programmes will cover all major international tournaments and sports events, especially those exclusive to Al Jazeera Sports, such as the Spanish, Italian, and French football leagues ? as well as the UEFA Champion's League and FA Cup competitions. In addition to football, developments in popular sports such as basketball, athletics, tennis and motor sports will be covered in weekly shows.

Arab sports news will also have a prominent presence on Al Jazeera Sports News. Two programmes will be dedicated to covering major sports events in the MENA region.
