OK, it is a bad dump?

    I am using Kess
V2 V5.017. According to documentation, we can read AM29 chip OK. Yes, I know needs SD for clone, but renew using OBD should be possible, no? It uses K-Line through OBD?

I can desolder and read with Willem for comparison.

Thank you for the responses. I desoldered the chip and used the Willem programmer, and the binary looks better. It has more data in it than the Kess OBDII read, so maybe Kess doesn't work either.

Anyhow, I am attaching the original binary, and the renew file from MB Renew. Can someone check if the original or the renew file are correct?
    Thnx!

OK, so I downloaded and compared the original vs renew files posted from peppery and it seems like the trick is to write 0xF from 0x4000 to 0x7fff? I have seen also that MB Renew also tries to write 0xF in that region, but it only writes certain bytes, doesn’t blank the whole region.

I have seen other renew files from other boards, and they also selectively blank out certain bytes but not the whole region, and with all of the renews from MB Renew, they never work. Well they do, but they get a "START ERROR" afterwards.

So am I safe to just blank out the entire region as mr. peppery does? I know, I can just try it, but its a pain in the a$$ to keep soldering and de-soldering. Especially because you can't remove the aluminium heat spreader, and it wont let you air blow the chip easily.

    Help! THNX!

Well, I'm still trying, If I figure this out, Ill let you know.

So I'm going with the trick I mentioned above, but cannot write to the AM29F400BB chip! Willem keeps giving me an error. There shouldn't be any special trick, so they suggest maybe the flash is a write-once special version? So now the chip is a ROM, and there is no more re-writing? But I don't see anyone else complaining so now I'm stuck. Do I buy a new chip, which should be R/W? Does this make any sense? I checked the region according to Willem it is not locked....
