    Default VCDS Status: Failed Self Test!?????

    using a cable bought from ebay.

    the problem for this i s the ATF16v8B inside vagcom.
    you need a new one and program with a jed file to work properly.

    Most happens to damage this ic because of not stable usb port . . either you was charging your laptop while diagnosis, or laptop shutdown when running diagnosis.

    What kind of laptop have you used?

    A new chip??

    I wasn't charging the laptop at the time. And i havent got to the part where i can run diagnostics yet!

    It's an acer netbook

    you can try though to reprogramm the atmega 162, sometimes the content go corrupt .

    but most of time its the atf16v8b fault in this case.

    To reprogram the chip will i need to solder to the cable?

    For the ATMEGA you can program it via ISP

    For the GAL you need to dessold it from the circuit and them reflash.
