AVDI will write genuine BE keys... But not many of the china replicas... Proved this to myself the other day... Will write real BE, won't write keys from HKlock, or autokeytransponder...

Remove the CAS, solder on a few wires and backup both eeprom and flash before you downgrade any CAS.

All the people complaining about damaging CAS modules during a downgrade without a backup only have 1 person to blame, themselves.

A new CAS can cost anywhere up to $2k fitted depending on the country your in, it can also take up to 3 weeks to arrive.
Try and explain to the customer why they can't drive their car away after the drove it half an hour before and it will be off the road for a few weeks.
I would rather spend an extra half an hour and buy myself insurance.

i dont do any bmw so excuse my ignorance here

why would you downgrade the cas?

what is the reason for this?

no other way to do it?

takes too long to do it properly?

    people are lazy?

what is the reason for downgrading the cas?

most threads are too large to find useful information easily

or if they are short they tell you how to do it

    or what not to do

they dont actually explain WHY it is done

The reason AVDI downgrades the CAS from the latest ISTAP version is because AVDI can't read the data from the CAS when it has the latest version... After it downgrades the CAS, it is able to read the data, then insert key data.. Then if you have the ISN from the car (DME) you can overwite the CAS ISN, then encrypt, then sync the DME to the CAS and you have a working car again... The problem is... (and this is just my thoughts) BMW and the aftermarket play a game of leapfrog, BMW comes out with a new update to keep the aftermarket from taking there business, and the aftermarket figures out what they did... Then BMW comes out with a new update... and the process goes on and on... I personally think that BMW has a new update that when it sees somebody trying to downgrade the CAS, it tells it to disregard the key slot... or BMW is keeping data in a different place in the flash, and when you downgrade it, you just put the key data where the info as to where the key slot was... I wish I had more time to play, I would find one of these cars with the latest flash and pull the CAS and read it on the bench and compare to a CAS that is an update or two back... I wish that if anyone is having an issue, and Abrites gets notified, they would send out and email and say there could be a problem and we are working on it.. I just can't take being blown off...

after downgrade and you program key do you reupgrade car back to original?

or do you leave it in downgrade state?

Read coding, save and transfer to new. Sometimes this wouldn't work for me and have to use DAS.
New ones always have been misfits for me.
