Default usb loader cant find HD

Hello, My boss decided to have a bash at soft modding his 4.3e wii after I told him that I soft modded my kids wii!
He has gave me his wii to look at as it cant find the hard drive so I installed usb loader gx 2.3 to try and solve the problem but it still cant find the HD, this HD works fine on my kids wii formated to wbfs.
Is there a WAD file that I should install or something else missing? or anything in the settings that I could change? I have looked through bootmii, priloader and homebrew channel settings but cant find anything to change?
I dont want to go through the hole softmod process but I may have to?
    Any help would be great!!

Without a syscheck report we can't tell you if anything is missing as we don't know which softmod method was used. Have you tried installing wiiflow or cfg to see if they recognize the hdd. Did you say your wii recognizes his hdd or is it his wii that recognizes your hdd, try your hdd on his wii

I have no idea how to do a syscheck! The softmod method was modmii. I haven't tried wiiflow or cfg. My wii recognises his HD but I will try my HD on his wii over the weekend when I am off work just trying to get the info ready for weekend so I can crack on with it!

Maybe a silly question but is the hdd being plugged into the correct port. If it is it sounds as though there is a bad cios on there. Modmii is usually very good but as you didn't softmod it you won't know if all wads installed without errors. Take this file Digital Kaos - Downloads - sysCheck v2.1.0 Beta 11 and extract to the apps folder on the sd card run it through hbc and let it check the whole system...This will save a .csv file to the sd card. Put the sd card into the pc then right click the csv file just created and select open with "wordpad" not notepad. Save that file to the pc then copy and paste into this thread and I'll have a look at it and let you know if anything is missing.....Do you know if he has made a nand backup and installed priiloader before you try to make any changes to the system.

Yeah its plugged into the right port! think its port A the outer port but I have tried both. I will download and try syscheck possibly tomorrow eve as the wife is on her night shift! so I will report back once I have done it. He has done a nand backup and has priloader installed.
    Cheers for the help mate!

So he's softmodded and installed PriiLoader and USB Loader GX or he's only softmodded it?

Does USB Loader GX start up to the main screen or does it say needs cIOS222, cIOS249 or cIOS250 or does do the 20 second count down and say USB Device not found?

As HH says you need to post a sysCheck report of the bosses Wii, I would also post one of your Wii as well.

Both identical and classic modmii so the hdd should work. The only thing this doesn't tell us is if there is a bad cios. It has still installed but may be corrupt. extract this file Digital Kaos - Downloads - Full Cios wad pack onto a blank sd card and put it in the wii then launch mmm through the hbc if it doesn't autoload to ios 236 (it will tell you the current ios at the top of the screen) go down the list till you get to reload another ios (or something similar) then select 236 from the list, then after reload if required go down to wad manager and open it then press "1" on the wiimote this will select all wads and click a "a" to install. This file is all the latest cios for a 4.3 wii including a full set of D2X final they have been confirmed as working. Do not uninstall any cios or ios just let them install straight over the top..

OK I have done that and all the wads installed OK but still not finding the hard drive but I have noticed on the HB channel pressing 1 on the wiimote for options you can select either internal sd slot or usb device this is on option sd slot but when I try to select usb device it highlights it for 2 seconds then un-highlights and does this constantly so I cant select it to stay on, the HD is fine on my wii in the options on HB channel, probably nothing to do with it buts not the same as my wii!

Thinking back to when I started to softmod my wii I think I selected somewhere to use FAT32, NTSC or WBFS to play games from hard drive or something, I cant really remember?
Dont know if that rings any bells to you?

If your wii recognises the hdd it is formatted correctly. If I try to select usb in hbc with sd card still in it jumps on and off. Remove the sd card and it will automatically select usb to read from. Don't know how you have the sd and hdd setup but the gx forwarder you are using on your bosses wii does not seem to be finding the .dol file for gx to launch try putting an apps folder on an sd with the gx folder in the apps folder then see how you go...One further bit of info I used to have a very tempramental hdd which used to be an internal hdd that I put in a caddy. gx would not recognise this unless i started gx then waited till it said waiting for slow usb device then switch on the hdd

Well I originally use USB Loader GX 2. something and thats the message I got when I tried to run it from HBC without installing cIOS249.

    needs cIOS222, cIOS249 or cIOS250

Those sysCheck's look ok all the correct IOS's are available.

I read a long time ago thats its better to plug your USB drive in first a wait a minute until it spins up then power the Wii up similar to what HH says.

I spoke to my boss today and asked him how he went through the softmod process and he said he selected FAT32 to play games via usb as it was recommended and when I done mine I selected WBFS so would it be best to go through the modmii setup again and select WBFS? before I do anything else?
