In this day of big brother and lawyers chucking lawsuits around like they are going out of fashion we need to urge more care with 'reported' contents in a post/thread.
Most or if not all newsworthy stories and even some of those that are not considered newsworthy are considered intellectual property.. Therefore please take time to credit the originating source of the information or link to it if necessary. Please remember though that if you live link to somewhere else it leave whats called a 'linkback' in their website so they can see where you have posted the URL and check what you have written..
Its best in some circumstances to avoid leaving linkbacks to the originating sites if possible, particularly in forum sections like this one. We have always encouraged our members to post links to external web sites in a 'code' window in their post/thread.
Listing a URL in a code window is easy to do, type or paste in the URL and then highlight it as if you were going to edit it etc. Now while it is highlighted click on the # button above, (if you can't see the # then select the 'GO ADVANCED' button below first and the # will become available), your URL will then look like this:
Code:
http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/faq/forums/#faq_glossary_of_terms
Now if for some reason the URL is still live even in the code window please edit the post and highlight the URL again but this time click on 'Remove Link' button above the test window you are typing in.. This button looks like two chain links with a red cross through it.
Now links from pasted pictures will always create linkbacks but are generally an essential part of most of the stories.. That is why listing the source of the information somewhere in the post or in a code window effectively credits the source for the content. This is not a one size fits all rule but a request for people to become net savvy about how they post links in an ever increasing world of internet policing.
Your adherence to this will be gratefully appreciated..
Thanks..
