I try all those steps in the order you give.

After applying update fix v1.7 (I verify by looking at file version number) you cannot apply updates after.. etupvw10000.exe | etupsk5320.exe | etupse5260.exe | etupau10000.exe
    or I get this error
    Update-error.jpg

So I not put those updates in while running update fix v1.7 and all updates take. I close ETKA and apply update fix v2.1. It runs and auto opens as suppose to. ETKA gives warning for databases will expire in 40 days.

I close etka and put in update files with the numbers after I mentioned before and I still get the error in picture above. I add each time always working with version 7.4 not 7.3

I know OP and many others do hard work to make this happen for all of us. I know it's hard because trying to make softwares do something it's not supposed to do.
But this is getting very bad. I uninstall and reinstall the software many times over three days now and having no success. Because every time updates don't work out there's no other way to clean things up.

Okay I start over from scratch again so you can see.

    1) install program, run ETKA v7.4 and prices updates included in package install. ETKA then warns update level is out of date. I click "ok" then close program
    2) I copy files from install fix 1.7 to c:\etka\prog folder..

    ETStart73-ver.jpg ETStart74-ver.jpg ETStart.ini.jpg

    3) I apply copy update files to c:\etka\data\**\update folders for each version.

    au-update-folder.jpg se-update-folder.jpg

    more..

    sk-update-folder.jpg vw-update-folder.jpg

    4) I now run ETKA 4 again and automatically get prompted to install VW updates.

You see here the last update number in each folder. You see the last file in VW update folder is etupvw10010.exe. Like it says in Readme.txt.
ETKA will not process this file or any other file dated after 01/15/2014 for any version (au/se/sk/vw) with update fix 1.7 installed.
So when it gets to it ETKA gives error.

Update-error.jpg now C:\ETKA\DATA\VW\Data2 becomes C:\ETKA\DATA\VW\Data2_$Upd$ and you cannot process anymore updates for that car.

C:\ETKA\DATA\VW\Data1\upd9810.log is the number you asked for. There aren't any similar files for se/sk/au as I didn't run the updates after vw failed.

If I do not add the update files dated after 1/15/2014 then ETKA process all updates successfully with fix v1.7.

To sum it up. You cannot install updates past date 1/15/2014 with either update fix. Both produce the same error as described.

I can not tell what's going wrong but try this:
after install etka do not apply fix 1.7
copy files of all brands at once until VW/AUDI 1000, SE 526 and SK 532 and install
if it install all updates correctly apply fix 1.7 then copy files VW/AUDI 1001, SE 527 and SK 533 and install. if it install all updates correctly apply fix 2.1

if you get a error when install updates until VW/AUDI 1000, SE 526 and SK 532, close etka, find all Data2_$Upd$ and rename to Data2
apply fix 1.7, copy again all files of all brands at once until VW/AUDI 1000, SE 526 and SK 532 and install
if it install all updates correctly, then copy files VW/AUDI 1001, SE 527 and SK 533 and install. if it install all updates correctly apply fix 2.1

instead of all updates at once, install updates in steps of 4 or 5 at once for not miss the updates already upgraded.

I tried doing as you directed but still no love.

After applying the first batch of updates everything ok.
    Successful-Updates.jpg

I close ETKA and open again and get this.

    etka-after-b4-1_7-fix.jpg

Click "OK" and close ETKA and apply fix v1.7. Open ETKA and don't get that expiration message again.
But when I go to apply the second batch of updates (au/vw 1001 etc...) I get the same error as before.

    Update-error.jpg

Since vw is always first to prompt for updates now have folder C:\ETKA\DATA\VW\data1 renamed to C:\ETKA\DATA\VW\Data1_$Upd$.
Also new folder C:\etka\Prog1_$Upd$ is created but it's empty.

I just renamed C:\ETKA\DATA\VW\Data1_$Upd$ back to C:\ETKA\DATA\VW\Data1 and deleted C:\etka\Prog1_$Upd$.

ETKA 7.4 and 7.3 work but cannot update and as such my original issue of not being able to use vin.txt still exists.

I found out b4 about missing updates so I carefully checked each version to make sure the numbers are sequential.

I previous had ETKA v7.0 running on this Windows 2003 SP2 box without any issues. Maybe I just go back and wait till things get sorted.

If you think of something else please let me know, I've searched all over the internet and can't find any solutions.

Thank You and you shouldn't apologize for your English.. It's very good.

    One more try:

after apply update fix 1.7 run and close etka 7.4 (Without new updates), run and close etka 7.3, run etka 7.4 and try apply new updates.

if it does not work, i do not know ... (this has worked for many users)

try one last time apply directly update fix 2.1

Well thank you again Mr. Rui Aguiar, that last bit of info did the trick. ETKA v7.4 took all remaining updates with fix 2.1 installed.
Plus my original issue is resolved. VIN.TXT works in ETKA 7.3 as you said it would with latest updates.

4 now all problems solved. Your time much appreciated and keep up very good work.

Is there a way to stop it from expiring without having to keep doing updates, so that it keeps working with the last update your happy with?

The Etka 7.3 i have installed does not have an EtStart.ini, so i made it & put the Delay parameter in there, still no difference.

I've seen where they talk about changing the date back in order for it to work when it expires

EtStart.ini only exist on my version

    Try this:
Create a ETSTART.BAT file on C:\ETKA\PROG and run to open ETKA:
    Code:
    @ECHO OFFset BEFOREDATE=%date:~%
    date 01-01-13
    Start EtStart.exe \ETKA\PROG\ETKA_VW.INI
    ping -n 5 127.0.0.1 > NUL 2>&1
    date %BEFOREDATE%
    END

Members will tell you that i'm a very cynical person, it is for these reasons why i appear this way.If the estart.ini only exists on your version then why tell me to edit it in the previous post(s) where edit implies that it exists already? but i think i know what you're going to say "I'm Portuguese, so i apologize for my very bad English"

As for etstart.bat, changing the date back manually as compared to having a batch file do it is still changing the date.
