doom& gloom! .illness starvation GReeD is doing a good job!
thing is, they went wiped out by the Spanish. that was the Aztec's
Mayan culture and its occupation of the city's we know, had ended 200(ish) years before the Spanish arrived.
there is no evidence they made any "predictions" either. (except in the minds of the brain dead "2012" fools)
"they predicted 9/11". oh yeah.
and completely missed the fact they, themselves, would cut down so many trees that the top soil would wash away and cause the death of their culture.
ignoring the internet, there is only one accepted Mayan calender.
or so the people who actually study these people, say anyway.
though it would be churlish to assume there were no variations.
I've seen the USAToday report. just aint had time to research it further
there "seems" to be a second inscription (recently found) that mentions the end of the 13th bak'tun.
so we have, possibly, two mentions of the date.
yet not one mention of the end of the world.
The Mayans were still around at the times of the Spanish and did take a spanking from them. They were however spread over a massive area and plenty weren't affected by the Spanish.
Even today there are still Mayan descendants around Belize and Guatemala. The last time I was in Belize was for 6 months in Dec 1985. A lot of the Mayan descendants still lived in small villages in the Jungle and lived off the land.
and i was really looking forward to christmas as well
indeed so.
but the Mayan culture and civilisation had ended.
all that is and was left, are the DESCENDANTS of the Mayans, from that time.
after all, Egypt is full of descendants from the time of the Pharaohs. you would not suggest Pharaonic Egypt still exists would you?
either way up, the Spanish had no part in the fall of the civilisation.
though its true they did destroy most of, what was left of, the Mayan written and pictorial records
.
and there is still not one shred of evidence that the Mayans predicted anything, at all, let alone the end of the world.
I'm looking forward to 22/12/2012.
it will be fun watching all these idiots, eating the shite they have been spewing on this subject, for so long.
along with the Moon Landing, drivel, this is the weakest of all the "conspiracy/prediction" myths.
you cant get any weaker than no evidence at all, can you?
"Windows - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition."
