It always happened in the older films that when the press people wanted to take a photo with the old flash camera they always stuck the flash camera in front of the movie camera. This managed to do two things 1: To prove to the audience that a real flashbulb was being used. 2: To temporarily blind the audience who could only see pure white for five minutes in a darkened cinema.
