    Default Beginner looking for advice

I am very new to this have never really looked into satellites / receivers before. But over the last few days I have been doing some research and need some advice on what would be my best option.

I am after the sly channels but mostly I want sport channels. I currently have no dish so will be installing one. Should I be looking for a motorised dish or is a standard one OK? Ideally I want to receive the foreign sports channels aswell as your usual sly channels as the football coverage on UK services is not the best(no 3pm KOs etc)

What receiver do you think would be best?

Any help / advice is greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to the board.

There is only one Saturday 3pm ko EPL game on 28.2E Astra satellite (i.e. 'S*y' satellite), therefore if you want to access much of the 3pm football you will have to go down the motorised route. Before you decide on a fixed or a motorised, it would be useful to do a search to see what sat's you might be able to get. Have a look at dishpointer for this info.
You might want to start off with a receiver that is well supported such as Dreamboxes or VU's.

Much of what you want to do has already been discussed in great detail on this forum, therefore feel free to have a good read on this forum and come back with any specific questions.

bear in mind that you should read the rules again as no sly channel questions allowed

other than that, check out the spiderbox 6000 receiver, darkmotor and an 80cm to 110cm dish, with inverto ultra black lnb - to give you a motorised system with various choices

for a better receiver look at VU boxes , or the blade , or some of the technomate boxes

have a read of this too http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-setup-301108/

Thanks for this response. I worry about the quality from navi-x as I used to use it with the sports devil add-on and the quality was nowhere near what I'm after! Has the quality improved?

Ramjet thanks for your response very interesting and insightful

Sorry if i have read your post wrong mate but Ramjet knows what's he's on about.......
Why do you say get a package from s^Y dream on

Get a good box ..& a motorized system there are many good boxes out here VU..Dreambox & many more there is more than 1 sat after 28.2 mate

once you know how to work them then there is more to life than tuning into S^k only & IPTV or sat at a computer streaming it

and it happens in HD if you know how to do it

The Sat scene is still alive & long may it be

with the way things are going, the question is how long
will there be anything but the freesat channels from 28e
and you can get more or less the same type of channels
from many other satellites and they still have the HD chns
plus most of the channel have english audio, and with the
latest genuine box from vu. the zero is just over a ?100, this
is a better price than most other boxes on the market, linux
or closed sauce or even clones, and motorised you will get far more
than a fixed dish on any satellite

As mentioned above, how long things remain open is the question, but don't worry about this part. It could be 2 weeks, 2 months or 2 years, but something else is always around the corner.

So I have a dreambox for many years now, with motor and can pull in most everything, doing it the way linux based boxes do it best.
Most are HD, others require me to pull in the SD version, but its all good for me.
So get a dreambox, vu, etc or go for a clone, which are cheaper and just as good, get a motor and read up/understand how cccam works ( this is the trick) and the world will change.
It's never to late to jump in and help from here or other sites is all you need.

I am afraid its more than likely to do with the Forum going through an Enhancement/Upgrade its happened on quite a few links and this looks to be a side effect
