Default help telneting to my dm 500s

    hi guys.

could do with some help if you dont mind please.

i have just done a factory reset on my dm 500 and started the process of resetting the box up. the issue i have is when i have attempted to connect to the box via telebt on dcc it keeps failing, i never had this issue prior to the restore,

i have tried several different passwords from root, admin, dreambox, vuplus, but nothing seems to work, i am currently on windows 10 but have also attempted to connect via my lappy using windows 7 but again no luck,

i have shut down firewalls on both systems and still no connection.

is anyone able to give me some advice in relation to this please.

    thank you
    anthony

install Telnet either on Win7 or Win10

    1. To enable Telnet command line utilities:

      • Click Start > Control Panel.
      • Click Programs and Features.
      • Click Turn Windows features on or off.
      • In the Windows Features dialog box, check the Telnet Client check box.
      • Click OK. The system installs the appropriate files. This will take a few seconds to a minute.

once installed click start - search programs and files - type in cmd - once in command box type telnet - once in telent type open 192.168.xx.xx

Is it dcc that's failing to connect or just the telnet option. If it's dcc make sure ip is correct. If it's just the telnet option do as digicon suggests or install putty. Much better for telnet than dcc anyway

    hi

thank you foe the help. it is just the telnet that is failing to conect. i have done what you said digicon and as you said my telent was off so i have turned it on now and about to connect my box back up to see if it works, cant do this section "type in cmd - once in command box type telnet - once in telent type open 192.168.xx.xx" at the minute as my IP address is showing as 176.27.xx.xx and that just dont seem right at all to me. so when i do i get a message saying could not open connection to host on port 23 connection failed.

    any ideas on this issue?

change Your Dreambox Password With DCC

” How to change your password using Dreambox Control Centre

click on telnet then you get a black screen
    type on the screen login

    root
    dreambox if default

    then type passwd

then it will give you the option to type a new password be careful because you do not see any letters come on the screen type the password then hit return and retype it again, then you will see password changed.

if you see the bad password: too weak. ignore it and retype the same as you did first. ”

    this came from different site

    hi,

i am unable to type the telnet section of of dcc as it has no connection to the box, i am unable to change password or do anything, i just have a constant message on screen saying,
"server has closed, login incorrect, dreambox login password.

i assume to telnet the box i must have telnet connected to the box first,

could this be a router issue as i had my router reset just before i did the restore on my box??

Do you need to enable telnet on the box first?. Install Putty on pc then enter the box ip user and pass usually root and dreambox if still defaults, and you will get the box i.p from within the network section in the menu. If you can't connect with Putty you need to look at the settings in the box to ensure telnet is enabled
