Check pins whether connect properly to the socket. i have read & write same chip with minipro without any problem.
Like topic says...
I have two chips. Both 29F800 and 28F400.
One is Intel AB28F400 B5B and other is AMD AM29F800BB. In both case, when I select the proper chip in MiniPro and put the proper adapter (yes I have adapter.... SOP44 on top of TSOP48), it just says chip ID FFFF FFFF and says can't read.
I have a willem SOP44 adapter on order, but it wont get here until next two weeks.
Is there something wrong with my mini pro?

HELLO
yo must desactive "check id" in option
Problem is adapter .....
no connections on the board.
I had the same problem several times.
Cleaning the legs always helped.
If you can't write disable "device id". Write a file than activate back "device id" and read and write again to be sure is not corrupt.
I have this adapter and no problem.

If helped - "Thanks" and "Reputation" please

Today i have the same issue. Clean legs with desoldering wire + sandpiper 600 and all OK.
Try with this information to repair the socket and uncheck the option of verify id
