Ian Mearns said employees should be allowed to stay home if the mercury rises too high - because working in such conditions is unhealthy and "desperately uncomfortable".
The Labour MP for Gateshead said: "In temperatures like this, it means that normal cooling systems just can?t cope.
"In fact, it could be really serious to their health because it puts huge pressure on people just to keep cool."
Mr Mearns has put forward a motion in Parliament which would force employers to ensure workplace temperatures do not exceed 30C - or 27C if their employees are involved with strenuous labour.
Currently, government regulations only recommend ensuring an unspecified "reasonable" workplace temperatures.
The general secretary of the Trade Union Congress has also called for an end to working in "dangerous" heats.
Temperatures nudged 90C (32C) yesterday, causing travel chaos as rail operators implemented speed restrictions amid fears tracks would buckle in the heat.
The London Ambulance Service received hundreds more calls than usual yesterday, while the RSPCA warned pet owners not to lock animals in cars or sheds.

What steel industry? with the Tories halting any tariffs on imports/dumping of Chinese steel, there won't be a UK steel industry left, so problem solved. What is it in the UK, moan all year that it's cold and raining, then the second the sun comes out and we get some decent weather they moan it's too hot

Obviously designed to help teh steel industry, and all others in the UK along
Chancellor Philip Hammond has begun discussions with China on an ambitious free trade deal which could see greater access for major Chinese banks and businesses to the UK economy.
The Chancellor told the BBC it was time to explore "new opportunities" across the world, including with China, one of the UK's biggest inward investors.
It will be the first time the UK has embarked on such a major project with the second largest economy in the world.
And will raise concerns about cheap manufactured goods entering the UK more easily.
In return for greater access to the UK for its manufactured products and investment, China would reduce barriers to Britain's service industries like banking and insurance as well as UK goods.
Care would have to be taken over security concerns and the possibility of China "dumping" cheap imports in the UK - for example steel.

Sounds liek a good deal for China, banks but not such a good deal for the rest of the UK manufacturing industry, if we have any left. Cheap steel to be bought by people who have lost jobs as a result eh....
