    Hi,

I want to install firmware 1.61 on my samsung drive, i have only ever flashed it 2 times, the last time being 2007 or early 2008 when my friend had prepared a floppy disc for me with files and a set of instructions. Basically from there all i had to do was connect the drive to my pcs mainboard via sata, and execute the floppy disc using a command name, that's it.

I can't get hold of my friend anymore, therefore now need a noobs guide in upgrading the firmware, i say noobs guide as i require detailed steps right from the beginning of what programs/files i need, how to create that floppy etc.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Best method is using dos to flash the samsung. The tutorials on here explain everyhthing.

    Good luck.

If you get stuck give me a shout and i'll talk you through it.

hey, just wondering if someone can give me some help. the more readin i'm doin the more i'm getting confused.

    basically i have a lite-on drive,
    model: DG-16D2s
    fw ver:74850C

this drive has basically packed in, kept gettin the "unreadable disc, take out disc and clean" even tho it was a new disc, then tried games i already had and it was happenin with that, got the new game changed and it was still happenin, now the games dont even load.

so anyways, my dads mate had an old xbox360 which the graphics packed up on and its got a hitachi drive

    model: GDR-3120L
    dont see a FW number

so my question is, whats the best way (without soldering) to be able to use the hitachi drive in my xbox360?

    any help would be greatful

    cheers

If it was flashed use jungleflasher to extract the dummy.bin from it. Extract also extract the key.bin etc.

Flash the hitachi with the ixtreme 1.51 hitachi firm and then flash over the key and spoof data. Done.

There is tutorials on here on how to do this. Also get the latest version of JF. And read up on how to spoof hitachi's.

If you dont do a hitachi properly then you can brick them.

The easiest option would be to get a new liteon drive or benq (i prefer benq drives) and flash the data over.

You cant brick these so you can play away with them until you get it right.

    Good luck.

Its your only option. You have no choice. The key from drive is specific to motherboard

Added MRA Hack Guides for both Switch and Probe V2 methods from team xecuter.

Both these methods, done correctly will retrieve firmware off any liteon drive flashed with any Firmware

I have a question: Is there any possible way to flash the series 9 liteons without having to cut and solder with jungleflasher?

The same thing has happened to me. i had the relevent f/w flashed to my hitachi drive. the xbox plays originals fine but refuses to play any verbs . i have been told that the lasers on the hitachis are weak in the older models, so instead of doing a pot tweak to the laser i have ordered a new one off ebay as i thought that this would be the best option, will this work?
