Default BMW 1 Series 2004 vs BMW Multi Tool - Remote not working

Adding a spare key to BMW 1 series 2004 and the new key(purchased from 3D) starts the car but no remote. I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Original key remote still functions fine. Any clues?
Checked key frequency with keydiy KD900 - looks a bit all over the place but reads something near 868mhz some of the time. Viewing on SDR functioning as spectrometer shows a signal on 434mhz and 868mhz.

Hi Doctore thanks for your reply.
BMW Multi Tool reads out frequency as 868mhz.
Key coded on car battery - codes in fine and starts car.
Are you saying I should try using a 434mhz key?

Was putting out a signal, but not working on car. Programmed another remote from different source and was fine. Not got round to sending it back yet to be honest, your post reminded me I need to do so!

Got another two on order from them...feeling like that was a bad idea. What was the other source? I have 2 customers hanging on and my other usual supply has none in stock.

I wasn't suggesting there was an issue with all their bmw remotes, just that faulty ones do exist and is the most likely reason for your problem.

2 more keys from 3D and a second car same results: no remote. Would anyone point me towards a tried and tested source that's compatible with this tool? (Or point out what I'm doing wrong - could well be user error)

This is the smart key right and not diamond on that make/model
    so only ever seen 868

But sometimes 3D do cock up - open key up & check - the ones i have you can move a resistor to change frequency.

Correct it is the smart key. OK I've had a little look the frequence resistor is set to 433/868 on the other side of the board there is J1 and J2 which are labelled 868mhz - these are unpopulated should these have resistors here? Don't suppose you have a photo of a good board?
