    Default BMW CAS3 CAS3+ Megathread

Front page of DK right now there is four topic related to CAS3 or CAS3+

Like the Volkswagen Passat dump thread, this can be one central thread for CAS3 CAS3+.

    Thoughts?

    http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...hlight=cas3%2B
    has some helpful information too

    So question for everyone....

A few weeks ago we discussed in here some people about BMW online option for ISTA downgrade.
Two years ago was last time I tried it. Can anyone confirm if this feature is working now from Abrites?

I would love to resume doing ISTA downgrades but I am unsure of the stability these days.

Long cables, great charger, can put it on the ground instead of under hood. Had one for 5 years now working well
    no problems.

seems consensus is doing eeprom & flash backup 1st of CAS - which is near impossible on mini tho.

BTW all the cleaver micro power supply controllers in the world can't stop something going wrong, just helps

I've got a lost key job on '64 mini (last of the CAS3+) - let u know how get on

I totally agree about the comment regarding potential for corrupt flash. I posted about the micro because it is asked in every BMW CAS thread.

    Good luck with the Mini.

Interesting comment - you mentioned CAS is near impossible to backup on Mini. Can you explain further?

difficult access to remove CAS unit for eeproming - ended up almost removing every bolt n screw to lift out.
And cos last of the ISTA being lost keys there seems no obd comms.

on top of that latest mask so my programmers are useless tough job, with little pay

thanks i'll get there eventually. AVDI is good kit - will use it no doubt & report back here. Just BMW are buggers now

its a good idea to have a central thread

Gave up in the end - sent to ECU specialist.

You can have BMW Explorer, AutoHex etc and still need eeprom kit to do lost keys with latest CAS3 & 4 & ECUs as no comms.
Add a TriCore ECU processor reader to list to get ISN - another investment.

They don't tell u this when u buy the kit.
    Mega bucks - little reward

I've had luck restoring comms in BMW in past by applying power to START/STOP fuse.

Wait, are you saying that with the latest ISTA version, you can't even diagnose the CAS without a working key?

Hi all, AutoHex website seem to indicate that it can be done by OBD.
I only have Abritus and car was dead apart from light on start/stop button (and alarm!!).

sure i tried break pedal, but will try both fuse and break pedal again cheers.

Saving up next for AutoHex - then have confidence in downgrade and anything goes wrong put right.
Also see TriCore boot cable included in AutoHex kit, so wouldn't need another expensive programmer in this case to read ISN.

Been a learning experience - would really like not to remove a Mini CAS unit - tho ECU i can cope with

In USA there are multiple START/STOP fuses in a single vehicle. They do not all require power. Run power until the glovebox light comes to life. This is when I know I can communicate with CAS again.

Autohex will do everything, but is advising for CAS3+ backup only for the latest SW version. To read the DME ISN either it has to be removed and connected directly to the bench, or it has to be powered-up in the car so ISN can be read.

I never had a problem with a corrupt CAS last year, but i prefer to not take chances.

Online version for the backup or the old version?
    Abrites right?

If online version - how long did firmware downgrade take start to finish?

I have read other people request to have the ISN extracted from just the CAS3+ eeprom dump. If this is possible what tool or how is it being done?
