A JAGUAR driver whose ?40,000 car was stolen from his driveway claims police told him to investigate the theft himself.

Kevin Standing, 58, was shocked to discover the 2015 XF had been swiped from outside his home in Brighton, East Sussex, while he slept.

But after ringing 101 to report the crime he was told that no officers would be able to see him and informed that his only hope of recovering it would be if its number plate was recognised on a roadside camera.

The grandfather-of-four said: ?They basically told me to investigate the crime myself.

?The call handler said the police wouldn?t be able to go to the garages and look at the footage but said I could do that ?if I wanted? and let them know if I find anything.

?It?s just unbelievable. They weren?t interested. It?s very frustrating and I feel like I will never see the car again.

?I now think is there any point of having a decent car to enjoy? I may as well buy an old Ford Escort or something that won?t cost me as much because it just seems too easy to take a car and not get caught.

She added: ?There is no CCTV at the property and the car doesn?t have a tracking device. There was nothing left at the scene to help officers if they had attended the property.?
