Default Halfords to offer unique health service to British motorists during MOT checks

BRITISH retail giant Halfords is considering offering customers a unique service during routine MOT checks.

The company, today announced a scheme offering motorists a free personal health check when they take their car in for a service.

Halfords said it is considering rolling out the programme in the summer after testing it at its centre in Crawley, Sussex.

Motorists were given a blood pressure check and advice on healthy living.

Stefan Warhaftig of Halfords said the idea was to turn autocentres into a mini health check station.

?Many of us lead busy lives but we still manage to make sure our car?s MOT is done on time but we don?t necessarily pause to treat our health in the same way,? he said.

The announcement comes just days after the British retailer made headlines following an inquest into the death of a pensioner inside a Halford?s store in Cornwall.

Retired shopkeeper Peter Norton, 79, fell while testing the repaired mountain bike he had taken in to the store be fixed because of a problem with its gears.

He had been asked by staff to ride the bike in the store, and was not wearing a helmet.

After returning home, Mr Norton collapsed and never recovered after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
