Depending on your needs, best chioce is 48 pin driver.

Every programmer have it's prons and cons

In example with conitec galep5 you can use any adapter produced since they start company.

Welon vp990 from weilei (chinese) have inexpensive adapters.

Beeprog or beeprog+ form Elnec very good ( don't buy BEEPROG3 very expensive in USE you can find some info here on DK)

    Xeltec 3000u good programmer (obsolete)

I personally had all of above

I bought 3000u from production line with many adapters and used for few years. Very good programmer in my opinion.

Galep5 very compact have it's own power ( batteries), very good price. Some adapters expensive because it use old adapters from galep4- 40 pin driver and this adapters have some internal logic. But you can find some schematics on internet, in example 48tsop to 40 dil, and make it on your own .

Welon vp990 inexpesive chinese programmer. Adpters in very good price in example tsop56 to dil 48 around 120EUR

BEEPROG or BEEPROG+ very good, new line of programmers from ELNEC like BEEPROG3 is very expensive in use every adapter is intelligent and have some electronics and counter.

Second to Faraday, avoid less than 48-pin ZIF programmer, personally it's my top piority. A few of the most common memory used in old day auto-ECU are PSOP 44 and TSOP 48. If the programmer is of 48-pin ZIF there's high possibility that any of them, they use universal (1:1) pin mapping adapters. But if they're 40 pin ZIF for sure it must be of their own mapping whether 40 to 44 or 40 to 48. Think about when the programmer needs to be upgraded !
