Default Theresa May to seek general election on 8 June

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has announced plans to call a snap general election on 8 June.

She said Britain needed certainty, stability and strong leadership following the EU referendum.

Explaining the decision, Mrs May said: "The country is coming together but Westminster is not."

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said his party wanted the election, calling it a chance to get a government that puts "the majority first".

The prime minister will refuse to take part in televised leader debates ahead of the vote, Number 10 sources said.

She doesn't appear to like democracy one bit. First off she didn't want parliament to get any input into the triggering of Article 50. Now that they have she doesn't want them to have any input into the final deal. Says a lot about her. I hope that, if the Tories win, that they have a reduced majority or end up in a coalition - may teach her a lesson. Though if the Tory party lose, she'll leave them with the mess she started and blame everyone else.

Reminds me of the wicked witch of the 80's. Anyone tried walking past her with a bottle of milk to see if she snatches it?

Most of Europe has headed in the direction of grand coalition government we are heading in the direction of no one to vote for!! They are all interested in their own personal gain and are self serving hypocrites, name any politician that hasn't broke an election promise.
As I have said before if they put on the voting slip "non of the above" I reckon most would vote for that?

She might find that the people who voted for 'em last time only did so to get the vote for leaving the EU. Now that's over wit teh electorate may get back to voting the way they normally would and get rid of the smug self serving witch and her get rich quick party.

Well we know our MP's are self serving, in it for a profit, only for themselves, born liars. So we don't generally comment on our own politicians since they all make cocoa the clown look like a serious contender.

over the last week i have witnessed statements and sound bytes from the tories that really makes me think that they do not want to be re elected, the whole brexit debacle seems to have become a political tightrope that could do long term damage to any party that steers it through negotiations.it has been a badly implemented process from the start and they have no idea which way to proceed.

That's more or less the conclusion I have come to as well. I would think that Tessie wants to make the deal so bad that it'd be unacceptable to either the UK or the EU (the EU can stop us leaving, and may well do so), which would end up with the UK not leaving. It was the Tories that kicked this off and so far has cost millions and will continue to do so for some time. It's deflecting from the domestic turmoil that the government has caused over the past 7 years and diverts peoples attention away from those things that really matter. The Tory party have managed to create huge divisions across the electorate (and the whole of parliament_ which may end in utter chaos for the next 5 to 10 years, but with no cohesion in the electorate it won't be noticed or acted upon. One thing for sure though is that the population of the UK will be paying for this sideshow.
