hi chuck ,was right where you were a few months ago m8 , so started with kess then stepped up to ktag with bdm stand then on to tri core ,plenty of info on here ,im only doing it as a hobbie at mo ,as i break cars so plenty ecu to mess up
Hi guys,
Recently had a E46 bmw in the shop that customer had a used ecu with him with a no start condition. Got me thinking I should start learning how to virgin/immo off ecu's.
I have looked a lot and it seems there is so many eeprom programmers that I am not sure wich one to buy (xprog/xpro-m/car-prog/orange5)...Not so sure about clone tools?
Basicly I need a tool that can read/write and a software to edit the data. Again, not sure which software to buy?
Carlab immo software looks to be the most complete one with a lot of support?
Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks for replying Danny! i didn't know Ktag could do immo eeprom reading/writing. I thought it was more for complete ecu tuning. When you say tri-core that is the new microcontroller. Not so sure what it has to do with the immo part of the ecu...
Also what would you use for checksum calculations if you use Ktag?
thanks again
ktag can't read eeprom, only eeprom in tricore ECU
get vvdi prog, get xprogm clone,
kess and ktag, both clones are super cheap
then you will find some immo software for in software section and ull be able to do old cars and some newer cars too

thanks levanime, so you are saying I shoudn't get kess or ktag since they poor quality? not sure if I understand correctly.
What about this kit, I know it's a clone but is it good? Checksum correction built-in software?

thanks again I really appreciate all your help.
