Default Merc A class 1.7 cdi no start, no comms to obd?

I have a Vanio in that wont start. 1.7 cdi Autonatic
    A little history..
Has been known to drop out of gear. Will then select reverse but not go forward until engine re-started.
Would take a while to start as if air in system but always started until now.
Will not communicate with autel or launch crp123
The engine will crank but not start, has half a tank of fuel, All ecu fuses ok.
Would not fire with thinners being sprayed into air intake.
    All thoughts welcome.
Have managed to get started after many days of trying.
This car had broken down at the fuel station & had to be towed.
I fitted a hand pump in line to the filter & found no fuel in the line for the first two pumps. I reconnected to the filter & pumped until hard I can fuel is leaking past the o ring of the return 'T' in the fuel filter.
Car would not start until I put foot on throttle to the floor. Lots of air in the fuel line.
Still no comms to the diagnostic!
