Default Doctors to breathalyse smokers before allowing them NHS surgery

Smokers in Hertfordshire are to be breathalysed to ensure they have kicked the habit before they are referred for non-urgent surgery.

The measures have been brought in by East and North Hertfordshire clinical commissioning group (CCG) and Hertfordshire Valleys CCG, which together are attempting to save £68m.

They said the changes were being brought in after 85% of people who responded to a public consultation agreed that smokers should be required to quit before being referred.

The proposals, revealed by the Health Service Journal, require smokers to have given up for at least eight weeks. They will have to prove this by undergoing a breath test, which will check for levels of carbon monoxide.

Dr Nicolas Small, the chair of Herts Valleys CCG, said: “Although we are asking people to take more responsibility for some aspects of their healthcare where possible, we won’t be withdrawing any support from people who are not able to do this.”

Doctors have no rights to stop the treatment smokers or not, look in the United Kingdom, National Insurance (NI) is a system of taxes paid by workers and employers, used primarily to fund state benefits. It was initially a contributory system of insurance against illness and unemployment, and later also provided retirement pensions and other benefits when they do not ask you if you are a smoker or not to take your money for contribution, do you know Doctors could be breaking the law ii they said to you and you can sue the hospital…

Good point, M-H-M is convenitly located, off junction no 1001 off the Z72 motorway, which is
a RED BULL CAN, throw from the hospital, had one guy a surgeon, needed his car back asap, so we cut as many
corners as possable, that Gorilla tape is awesome, then turns up an hour after agreed time, then said he was needed in surgeray to sort somebodys mistake out, so we didnt get chance to put slice of soap in his tank as normal.

you would have thought he would have got somebody to call 1-900-MEAT
    (calls £10/min minimum 10 mins).

So after the operation did you have some bits left over or have to cut some bit off that no longer works properly that you threw in the bin?

Good show old chap we'll chalk that up as a successful engine swap and a ECU resuscitation (Is a Renault clio 150k on clock engine a good replacement for a low mileage Daimler?)

I agree. Id have thought synthetic fillers would have been just as good and cheaper though?
