Default Help Me Choose A Cheap Multi Use Programmer :-)

    Hi guys

I would like to be able to clone ECU's and be able to immo some as well.
The clone side of things seems pretty straight forward as it seems you just need to read the EEPROM of the old ecu and write it over the EEPROM of the replacement ECU.
And there seems to be a few software packages on ebay that can remove the IMMO off the file read from the EEPROM.

    Is this all correct? ....

    Now my question is.....

Can anyone recommend a cheap programmer that can read/write to a majority of ECU's?

It would need to be USB and work under at least windows 7.

I don't want to spend too much as its not something i would be using often (probably use it more for bios chips in computers).

it is way to do some older ecu's (not even all "old" ecu types) , for newer like edc17 , pcr2.1 etc... it is not possible that way (it is much more complicated) and for some not possible at all. Anyway good and cheap all around programmer for starting and learning would be xprog and tl866

    Thanks for the reply.

Two ECU's that i need to play with at the moment are one from an iveco daily that i think uses a 24c16 eeprom, and the other is a audi/vw ME7.1 or ME7.5 ecu (not sure what eeprom it uses.

I see a lot of ecu dumps being posted on here so i though this was the normal route when it comes to ecu cloning/immo off.

    open to more suggestions

    Thanks

So wouldn't the one like I linked to do the job?

It just seems very cheap and says it does 24c , 25c and 93c so should cover a lot of ecu's

    Thank you

I think I would sooner use a eeprom clip so I don't need to remove the chip from the ecu.

Again, does anyone know if a programmer like this one would work?

And if not can you please tell me why?

I think not, because it is very limited, it only work for 24Cx 25Cx 93C

    leave out eeprom 95160, 29f400, 95p08, 95040, 95320, and many many others...

What do you mean by it's not enough?
