    Default 2010 CAS3 Can't Communicate

    This time it's a 2011 CAS 3 from an E92 coupe.

    0L15Y 512k.

BMW Multitool connects to it OK and reads the initial data.

"Get Key Info" hangs and produces an error like, "bypass security failed".

This is the same by OBD or on the bench.

Connecting R270 to it, the programmer appears to operate, identifies the chip, but can't read any data? It certainly behaves differently when I deliberately disconnect the cable - when it tells me it can't find the chip.

The programmer is working. I've used it to read and write CAS2 eeproms recently.

Is this CAS3 encrypted? I've had Multi Tool tell me that the CAS is IstaP-45 in the past. This one does nothing. Fails security and hangs.

Connecting direct to the board doesn't deal with any encryption?

Any pointers would - as always - be much appreciated.

I suspect I am going to be told that I need to buy new kit! Any suggestions? Just BMW stuff just now, but I'd like to be able to do the newer BMWs before perhaps moving on to other German marques.

    Thanks again.

this is CAS3 plus, yesterday my R270 deleted ISN from that type of CAS on E81, then I opened ECU to read ISN and write it in CAS with AVDi online function...
    better use VVDIprog or other

I presume so, but it's all keys lost, so not absolutely sure. No evidence of a fault, though.

    Any suggestions for tools?

CGDI? Looks reasonably capable without costing limbs?

I use vvdi prog and solder on board, never had trouble read out memory. If all key lost it is possible you need isn from ecu to. With all tools you can program by obd if you wake up car. It can be that your cas has to downgrade.

I've had the scary "ISTA P45 - CAS must be downgraded" message before with BMW Multitool, but this time, it didn't say that, got as far as "Get key info" and produces the security error. Using R270 and soldering to the board didn't work either. I'm away for a week, I'll do some research and order some new kit, I think.

Some people never learn.... If you want to destroy your CAS use R270. Not the first time hearing it deletes ISN and not only that...

I've just found this thread after a few weeks of trying to fix my car. I dumped and modified my CAS3+ ISTAP with r270, this is the first I've heard of if removing the ISN from them, but this may help me with my solution!

Is this confirmed, that r270 is useless for ISTAP CAS3?
