Not all can be read in cirquit.
Instead of milion times failed you could resolder chip.

At 1st U have 2 cut the tips plastic, sometimes it is 1.5 mm longer than necessary.
2nd: if the clip sits perfect, and the reading ends with empty content, then U have to take it out. An 8 legger is not too difficult with a battery powered solderer what we use.

But be cautious: killing a spider brings catastrophic results

Be careful reading in circuit, not everything can be read incircuit you may get no reading an inaccurate reading or in some cases you can corrupt the eprom in the attempt.

Nope. However, if you try a few times and it fails, it's a good idea to remove the chip from the pcb and read it with the clip or an adapter. Be careful when reading a detached chip with a clip though; it's spring tension can cause it to act like a catapult.

The best way is when you buy a scrap notebook mainboard. There is many FET and MOSFET in the power distribution system and those are using the same SOIC8 and SOIC8-200 package like the eeproms.
When your technique is stable buy a 100pcs empty eeprom package from china put back a few piece with a small epoxy under the ic. It's almost the same like the automitive stuffs. If you able to remove and after that read-write the eeprom you are ready. I mean you are ready to forget the whole lazy partially working in-the -circuit clip thing

First you must let us know what is the target ic chip your working on. 93xxx or 95xxx or 24xxx or 35xxx ???
they all have special ways to read or write. 90% of my readings are done in circuit, just need to know what to ground out.

I think in circuit is quite risky. I usually remove unless I know its safe. Sometimes after Ive removed & backed up I will try to read in circuit then make a note that it is possible
