Default Tool suggestion to generate keys when OBD programming fails? Tango or Orange5?

Tired of walking from jobs when OBD programming fails because of mismatched components or whatever the issue might be. I hear about Tango and Orange 5 but not sure what they do exactly. Is it basically you dump eeprom and load it into their respective software then the programmer will write a key that is already stored in the car to start it?

I don't need a device to dump eeproms, so maybe there is software to read the dump and a handy baby could write the needed bits? Just trying to save a buck if I don't need to spend on new toys. Also have effi and zedbull mini, but seems like that is targeted towards Euro market and not sure what works and doesn't.

That you for your time and I appreciate any feedback.

Tango's pretty comprehensive but if you're serious about doing more than the occasional key, avoid the clone. Can't make keys with Orange5 but it's good for programming chips.

Hi. Saw you said you had the clone in another thread. What is it's main drawback? Less functionality? What about the FLY one that advertises online updates? Might just get original then.

I've got both. The original stays in the shop and the clone stays in the truck . Main problem with the clone is it can't be updated. Other than that, it works pretty good for the common cars you may run across.

In the US, for some cars - newer Ford and Honda, for example - you also need to be registered with NASTF as a Vehicle Security Professional.

Tango original very good price for such high quality tool.

Well, to use Tango you need some external MCU, eeprom programmer like... Orange. Both are great choices.

there are plenty of jobs that you should just walk away from

    tons of them

i try to weed them out on the phone so i dont waste my time

i believe the autel elites can do just about anything you need really

seriously tho ask questions on the phone

you should have a series of questions lined up for every type of job

    car?
    lock out?
    key made?
    door match ignition?
    changed components?
    battery dead?

    house?
    rekey?
    lockout?
    lock change?
    something broken?
    one key for all locks?
do you have the key for the locks?

you shouldnt be walking away from jobs you cant do

you should have known not to go in the first place......

yes i know occasionally they wont know or shit just happens

but weed them out as much as possible

    take yesterday for example

    i got 16 calls

i did 5 calls all day

    i made ~700 profit yesterday

i chose to make sure the jobs were able to be done as much as possible and told the rest to go kick rocks (sometimes i like to recommend other locksmiths i don't like)

always try to stack the odds in your favor

    you got a cloner?

    eeprom machine?

    obd diagnostic scanner?

if you dont what are you waiting for?

That's good advice. I need to remember to ask those type of questions instead of getting excited for a job that might not even get done.

Damn bro, wish my phone would ring like that. Ive passed out some cards to car lots and it's gotten me a couple clients that hit me up when they need something, but usually the pay is lower from those types of jobs. Did you hit the streets and pass out cards or hire seo or what? Glad to hear your doing good though mate, thanks for the tips.

Takes time. Just do a good job and you'll find that passing out cards was minimally helpful. Referrals and word-of-mouth is where it's at for the small business. Keep it up and by the time you notice the white hairs starting to appear, you'll be praying that the phone doesn't ring too much today.

    cards?

    never made any....

i tell people to put my number into their phone and save it as locksmith

    i watch them do it

i know my phone number is saved into their phone

handing out cards seems like a waste of time to me

how many get lost forgotten or thrown away?

whats the ultimate goal of the card?

to get the phone number onto their phone?

skip the bullshit and tell them to save it in their phone and then i send them a text that says "locksmith"

the number is already in the call log you just have to add to contacts

people ask me all the time for business cards and i say

why? just save it in your phone............ what is this the 1960's?

90% reply with "good point" and then save the number
