Default (SOLVED) 2000 Camry XLE V6 3.0L Issues

I bought a 2000 Camry XLE V6 3.0L a few months ago with only the valet key - both masters had been stolen. I didn't realize at the time how complicated this issue actually was! I have since bought a spare ECU and soldered a socket on to hold the 93C56 chip. I found the excellent post here containing a virgin dump for a 2002 Camry and a post on Instructables with a dump for a different Camry. Both dumps are different (same codes but in different location on the chip). After I rewrite the chip to either of these dumps, I can insert/remove a key and the light stays on for programming mode - but then it only programs a single valet key instead of the 2 masters + valet. I've tried about 20 different iterations attempting to manually change the valet to a master but without success.

Does anyone have any tips? Ideal situation for me would be to figure out what's going wrong with my virgin dump . Otherwise, if I could even see what this chip looks like on another similar car, I think I could duplicate the structure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Did you write it as 16bit? That will usually cause a problem. I can pm you a clean file if you’d like. Is it a Fairchild eeprom?

Wrote as 8bit - good clarifying question, thanks. I'm not sure how to tell if it's a fairchild; the chip said Bf87AG 93C56 EM8 on it. A clean file would be greatly appreciated, thanks! It'd be amazing if it was the one to unlock this puppy, but at the very least I may be able to find a pattern in the different files I've seen. I appreciate the offer

Where is the car from? Do you have the VIN? There are 4 variations in the USA alone.

Oi! This is even more complicated than I had thought! Do you mind if I PM you the VIN? The car was bought at a dealership in Washington state.

I have a feeling you're using the wrong id for the master keys, that's why it will not program, check id on valet key and get proper master keys

It’s definitely a 4c. You need to read and write the file as 16bit.

Your problem is not the key, but the bin file. There 2 learn mode file 16bit for early system, 2002-03 there a 32bit learn mode file. When ever you use the wrong your only going to program valet key.

My ideal state would be programming the masters/valet through the ignition (and keymax has offered to send the proper bin ), however I've snagged a few key codes through the valet being programmed. Once I know the layout of the file I would be able to move the valet key to a master slot.

I don't have a dump from the current vehicle - I'm using a second ECU with an identical model number; I'm unable to read from the chip in circuit and don't want to risk soldering my main.

That's what I'm starting to hear - thanks for the confirmation. All my attempts to this point have been in 8bit. I'm crossing fingers for the 16bit clean bin for my vehicle, but otherwise I'll start poking around in 16bit and see what changes.

Unless the file is the same and it's just the fact I've been writing it as 8bit that's causing an issue... It takes a bit of effort to pull the dashboard apart for ECU access so I'm going to try to be patient instead of jumping the gun My wife needs the car in a few hours so I don't want to leave it in pieces

Did you get same ECU part number? Post dump, we'll have a look.

Best chance you have for sorting it out is dumping your current eeprom. Easily removed with solder wick if you don't have hot air.

ECU part number is identical, yes. Here's the dump I took of the chip I replaced on my second unit. Its format follows what I've seen online - however when I look at what gets written for valet key, it's in a totally different layout. May be because I wasn't writing in 16bit, of course...

I realize that getting a current dump would make things very simple, but I'm new to soldering. My "second" unit is actually my third - my first attempt to remove the EEPROM resulted in a damaged chip and (far worse) a broken pad. I haven't been able to find a good way to use solder wick to remove an SMD, as some solder is under the feet where the wick can't absorb it.
