Default Toyota Corolla Verso Multimode (MMT): gear indicator disappeared after init of ECU

    Hi,

I changed 1ZZ-FE engine to a 2004 Toyota Corolla Verso. While replugging the plugs, I accidentally broke clutch position sensor.
Despite of broken sensor car was running fine, but in the limp mode = only three gears were available.

So I ordered a new genuine clutch position sensor and replaced it. Then I was supposed to do tree step initialization and learning process.

    1. initialization of ECU
    2. initialization of clutch
    3. initialization of transmission

After initialization of the ECU, gear indicator disappeared from the dashboard and I haven't been able to complete the learning of the new values, despite of hundreds of tries.

I think the problem was that I didn't set clutch to a clamp position before I initialized the ECU.

    What I have tried

    1. To complete initialization and learning using Toyota's own procedure using pins 13 and 4 + gearstick.
    2. To complete initialization and learning using Lauch's Toyota specific tester
    3. Replaced contents of eeprom 93c66 with the one I got from the forums
    4. Bought an used MMT ECU and replaced contents of eeprom 93c66 with values from the another ECU
    5. to swap mmt ecu, ( but car doesn't recognise the new one without reprogramming and I have no idea how to do that)

ECU number is 89530-64030 (Toyota) / 324811-12300 (Aisin).

Does anyone know how new MMT ECU can be programmed? Using Toyota Tech Stream maybe?

Any other kind of help is also highly appreciated.

I have had this once, even with a fresh new ecu I could not initialise or relearn it. At the end I bought an ecu from the scrapyard and put it in and manually adjust the positionsensors on the gearbox. You also can pull the EEprom (93c66) and fill it in manually but that's a lot of work.
Also watch the batt voltage the different motors pull a lot of current, while testing.

    Thank you for reply easytech.

I already bought a used ecu from scapyard, but car doesn't detect it at all. System check tells me that car is not equipped with Multimode M/T when I plug the used ECU to the car.
    Part number is exactly same.

How you got that scrapyard ECU installed:
    - Was any kind of programming needed or you just plugged it to the car?
    - what do you mean by manually adjusting the sensors?

I have already pulled the EEprom, but I don't have a dump with learned values. If anyone is having it, please post it as a reply.

    Hi,
Then the ecu from scrapyard is defective, you should detect it. So far I know there are 3 versions but you can use all of them.
In my case the scrapyard ecu worked right away only down shift from 3 to 2 was sometimes not ok and going in limpmode.
I did calibrate this to turn the sensors on the gearbox a little bit. There are metal bushing for the screws of the sensors you have to remove these bushings.

It is just like a throttle sensor.

Attached a dump from one of the ecu's before initialisation.

    Hi,

It seems that the dump is for 89530-64010 and my ECU is 89530-64030. Do you have dump for 89530-64030 or should 89530-64010 work too?

I filled the eeprom with your dump and gear indicator appeared back.

If I try to change gear to E1 or R, N-indicator flashes and it occasionally changes the gear indicator, but I'm not able to drive.

I checked the DTC:s and got P8010 which is related to clutch position. Maybe there is still some differences between this and original dump.

( Btw, when I started the car first time with this dump indicator of gear 5 flashed until I pushed the brake pedal. )

Look if the clutch motor is working when going from N to any gear.
I will look on my other PC at the shop tomorrow for more dumps.

    Hi,
First of all, extend the rod on the actuator by sending 12v on is motor

and follow these steps with a full charged battery.

PS: loose the 3 screws that fix the actuator on the gearbox before begin.

    Hi Kalectro,

Thank you for suggestion. I have tried method you suggested about 100 times without success.

That is why I need learned dump for 89530-64030

Check MMT fuse in fuse box.
Check gear selector and selector position sensors plugs are not swapped.
Dis-assemble clutch actuator and check moving parts are free,if position sensor broke, it may have exceeded its limitand got stuck, when installing, loose the 3 bolts and set 0.3mm-0.5mm free play.

If gear indicator disappears this is not an ecu problem, any dump will not work, ecu init must be performed,if ecu detects a stuck object it will NOT init properly.
