yes it is possible that the code was changed, but then you woul need to post dump from eeprom.
One question. Did you type th part number 7 612 360 511 correctly or should it be something like 7 612 300 511?

Thanks Teuton, i'll give that a go and post back if it worked or not. It will be 6 weeks before i try it though as i am abroad now. I bought this travelpilot ex of Ebay two weeks ago for my Mondeo which unfortunately came without the code, its now sitting idle at home waiting for me to return and install it!

Just out of interest as there seems to be a lot of knowledgeable people on here, would anyone know where i can find a downloadable version of the Users Manual for a Ford Mondeo 'Platinum' from 2006. Unfortunately, the car came without the original manual and for the life of me i cant find it online anywhere.
