FYI for thise who don't know these are simple to make
    3 pin connector w/pins $10 off ebay
9 pin truck connector from internatioanl $25
    4 pins int connector $4
alligator clips for power and some red, black, green and yellow wire $10

If anyone wants i can post pics of mine later.

this allows you to plug your 9 pin nexiq conector directly to the ecm, this will also let you communicate with the dodge cummins trucks.

you are probably plugged into the dash plug and if you are thats why. you have to plug into the 3 pin plug in the main engine harness under the hood to do a recalibration i hope u saved all the info before you tried to flash it or you are probably going to have to look all the specs up again and program them all in if it gave u and error code and it wont connect anymore the ecm probably erased when the connection broke from the computer hope this helped you out have a good one

hi, I have performed recalibrations many times thru the in-cab connector (9-pin DEUTSCH) no problem. But yes, you are right, it is better to connect directly to the ECM via the ECM connector instead of the in-cab connector to minimize any potential power failures.

Though rare, yes I have experience power failures to broken connections from the ECM connector to the 9pin deutsch connector. Just my 2 cents.

Sorry for my english, but I'm spanish and don't dominate very good your language.I got some problem with finding a calibration file for the N14 in the incal dvds. I remember that I need to get a incal dvd from the summer of 2009/8 because in the last incal dvds it not appear. With the dead ecm I don't know what kind of harness are using to calibrate, but I have the original cummins harness and they have a button to some kind of rom boot. I never need to use it, and I don't know if it can bring to life your ecm..

    Best Regards

from my experience it is safer always to hook directly to the ecm, as long as you have a break out harness, we also power the with a power supply when doing recals, have found for what ever reason other ecm's that are running on the j1939 will cause problems when trying to recal, plus just to be safe. only have found this issue with cummins, cat I have no problem going straight through the in cab conector. unless it crashes half way through, then use the breakout harness.
