    Default VW Golf 2.8 V6 4MOTION

Hi all, hope one of you guys can shed some light with my golf 2.8 v6 4motion, I have got the traction control light come on in the dash and i scanned with a shareware vagcom and it showed faults:

    1. abs control module = no communication intermitent

    2.all wheel drive controller(haldex) = no communication

3.drivetrain databus = fault (this has disapeared).

I have heard that if the controller for the haldex fails the car goes into fwd only but mine does not wheelspin at all still launches like a rocket, also if the abs module had gone then why not is my abs light on and my brakes dont lock either so they work fine!!! any ideas chaps?

Communication between the modules is defective, probably not the modules. There's no model year, so I am guessing. It could be a can-bus problem (broken wire) or water ingress in the connector of the Abs or Haldex controller.

Vagcom is the only software i got, so from what i can gather its probably a wiring fault not the modules. haldex module is ?700 and abs module is ?500 dont need that just after xmas.

"intermitent" means that the fault is not always present. For the ABS - these year VAG models have an issue with the ABS module - check if the earth is connected on the module itself. For the FWD module - look at the wiring.

The ABS is quite hard to be fixed. Here is a HOWTO - http://www.lbak.dk/Audi/Repair_ABS_unit_passat.pdf.

Ok I have replaced a few haldex units thinking that they are faulty but only thus far 1 was truly faulty more than likely it is a wiring issue PS do you have any accessories fitted once can accross a tracing system tapped in can bus wires

Thanks for the reply guys but what i cant understand is that if the abs module has gone then why no abs light is on in dash or red stop light! electromech i dont understand what you mean here "PS do you have any accessories fitted once can accross a tracing system tapped in can bus wires"

do you mean another type of scanner?

The ABS and Traction Control is contained within one unit and depending on which side fails it puts either the ABS or TC lights on.

What Electromech is asking is does your car have any extra's fitted e.g aftermarket radio or towbar etc. If these are incorrectly wired in they can give problems, but as your car is a Golf IV then it is not CanBus so this shouldn't be an issue.

Ok thanks for the replies chaps i will have to have a good look round all the connections and see if any water or corrosion has got to the connectors. I checked all the fuses and the ones on top of the battery the other day but they were all fine. just seems weird that this happens a week after all that snow we had.

And for both modules to go at the same time? possible maybe.. we will see

Download this m8, if in doubt, read the vag-com 409.1 thread, should get you going.
