Default KTag EDC17C74 not identifying/reading ECU

    Hello guys,

i have a 2018 golf mk7.5 gtd dsg DGCA with a Bosch EDC17C74 (04L 907 309 R) (0 281 031 66) and i'm using Ktag 7.020 Red with SW V2.25. Unfortunately, Ktag cant read anything from this ECU. I use protocol and pinout 705 (boot pin with probe pen and bdm frame) and it doesen't even identify it, always ending up in a communication error.

The ECU is still working like a charm in my car after opening.

    I already checked:

    • GPT Cable pinout is correct
    • D-SUB Cable pinout is correct
    • tried powering ECU via KTAG with 12V 1A, 12V 1,5A, 12V 3,0A
    • tried powering ECU with external 12V power supply
    • tried different pinout found in the internet by dimsport where CAN-HI and -LO go to pin 51 and 52

When getting ID with Kess, it shows:
    HW Ver. 04L907309R
    Upg. SW 04L906026RK 7727
    Engine R4 2.0l TDI

I also already tried reading it with a friends Ktag (also red, same versions) and its also not working / identifying.

I already searched the whole internet for days and i'am despairing...
Do you guys have another suggestions or things i could try to make it work?

    Greetings from germany!

Thanks for replying, but i tried these two pinouts, the one where CAN goes to 30 and 31, and the one with 51 and 52.

    Both options are not working

Yes, boot connected via probe pen, proper connection, measured resistance of pen to clamp via multimeter, I’ll try 14v tomorrow and will report

Have you tried using protocol 675 (tc1797+no FLASH), or 739 (tc1791/tc1793+M58BW032FB) OR 748(tc1791/tc1793+no FLASH)?

Buy pcmflash its a great tool for all VAG EDC17 and via OBD port, its good price
Eight bytes walk into a bar. The bartender asks, “Can I get you anything?”
“Yes,” reply the bytes. “Make us a double.”

For one ecu i don't think is worth to buy an ori tool..... just give the ecu to a tuner, or in a shop with ori tool to read it, the cost should be very low.. (and the risk too....)

There are much different EDC17C74 from VAG
My 04L907309R H22 and H24 did work fine with KTag clone
However 04L907309P could not been read with same tool and same wiring
