You can try any combination you want. If doesn't work you can start all over with the same hardware. No need to put it in trash bin and buy another.
Yes V7.0 works fine with 18.9.0 english released before 18th october.

Hi! Quick question; What's the easiest way to connect VCDS cable (2018 version HEX-V2) to 12V when writing/flashing with VAGCOM_EEWriteLang? I'm thinking of attaching a + wire to pin 16 and a -wire to pin 4 or 5 on the OBD-2. Is it safe, and will it work?

Read some pages backwards. You will find a lot of links. And if you plan to use the DRV (german) version: You need VCDS-DRV-18090-Installer-exe with SHA256 HASH

The sha256 hash of the 18.9.0 drv installer that I've got a few days ago is be03a248c59755ed7d69dfcf6f725cca77185af6bb0ecf7f7a 47960646048407, the digital signature is from 05 Oct 11:07 and it works just fine. How many different versions are out there?!?!

Picture cabling is correct but the labelling is wrong. -12v should be 0v (or GND for GrouND).
I just used an old 12v netgear router power adapter by cutting off the connector end and soldering a suitable pin socket onto the 0v lead and another onto the +12v lead:

Yes, you are right. This would be 100% correct. It should be for illustration purposes only. But anyway, the picture is updated.
