try with a 32bit system

I did. Tried on Windows 10 x64 and Windows 7 32 bits. Just says "coding accepted" but the coding does change in fact. I just need to change one parameter with long coding and everything else works...

Not sure did not find info either and the item was removed from Aliexpress (and the snapshot doesn't work either), but it said that it is compatible with 17.1.3, no updates possible but it is Internet safe, meaning it cannot be bricked and it indeed cannot, tried with Internet and the French version of VCDS (which says it is unlicensed) but the English version still work.

On the plastic casing it says "VAG 17"

Similary as NEC D79F... based cables, the firmware are modified. And the command "burn eeprom" cannot do what must do.
So, this cables work without damage.

What you wrote is OK, real, but my question is "what uController is mounted on PCB?"

Either way it does not look like it can be re-flashed. It works well but long coding doesn't work and I need it just for that :/

Is there a cheap source of CAN compatible dongle that supports long coding (for a 2005 VW). I only intent to use it once so the cheaper the better

Yes, I've tested it on Win 10 x64 Pro, and even on the USB 3.0 port - everything works! Can works, long coding also.

Guys, now on Aliexpress you can find HEX v2 version of VCDS. This will be somewhat of a review of this cable..:

It looks exactly like the original version, the cable is detachable and has to lock screw in it. Overall it looks very high quality. But the look is not all.

I've connected this cable to my PC. No updates, no internet connected, just like it should be. I've used software provided on the CD.. In the test tab it looked like this:



Not good, Atmega cables always showed 'OK' on the Kx lines..

Well I thought this will look different if it was connected to a car.. So I went to do some testing..

I've connected it. and status was all 'OK' except of CAN, which is not available in my car.

I've connected to the '01 Engine' module, no problem. Than I wanted to do 'Auto Scan' I've selected my car, it checked module 01, and that's all it successfully checked. I've done another test..



Not quite what it should be, again..

I've reconnected the cable, same thing. No matter what. I've tried ignition of and off, engine on and off. Every possibility I could think of. The cable was disconnecting all the time, other errors were like this:


Of course it was connected..

I've spent 40 minutes trying to get it to work. No luck..

Overall I would NOT RECOMMEND this cable. But maybe it's just my unit...

Thanks, there's just one problem.. There is no LM7805 on this PCB, not anything similar..

Yes on the back of the PCB, the chip you see is probably the voltage regulator. Test it with a multimeter.

What's the point of HEX v2 anyway?
