Kodi boxes can be used to gain add-ons that offer illegal streams as well as the legal TV services.
Thousands of Brits use the set, as well as file-sharing websites like BitTorrent to watch sports as well as TV shows and films still showing in cinemas.
Many are unsure whether what they are doing is against the law.
Now, a new law could see those infringing copyright receive ten year prison sentences
The Digital Economy Bill, warns that those downloading or making films or matches available online ? by using torrents ? will be committing a criminal offence.
It is proposing ten year sentences, but it has said this will ?only be applied in the most serious of criminal circumstances,? it confirmed in a letter to the Open Rights Group.
That means anyone who accidentally infringes copyright, like re-posting a picture on Twitter which belongs to someone else is unlikely to face charges.
It?s also unlikely to foot the bill for storming the millions of living rooms in Britain where Kodi software might be used to stream pay-per-view films.
But ?intentional? infringement, such as in the case of streaming hundreds or even thousands worth of free films, TV shows and sports programming could be in big trouble.

Tablets. Laptops. Tvs all legal.
Intact majority of 'smart' devices that use a popular os can use kodi. Kodi itself is legal and a great media centre. It's the illegal addons that should be targeted and means to block it

Let’s talk about the copyright….Why the hell Chinese can not be charged for copying the software for most tools this is also covered by our copyrights?
Does this example make sense?
For rape you get 4years
For carrying gun 8years
For murder life out in 8years
For robbing a bank 3years
For streaming kodi box 10 years

it would be interesting to see how they are going to enforce it

No need to ask Sam, Tessie got various bits of snooping legislation passed whereby they can just take a look and send you the invoice direct from GCHQ. They'll be adding Sly and Vermin to the list of authorised entities soon I would guess. Unsure why those in the list, listed at the below link, need access really.

Why would the food standards agency or NHS Trusts need access to your browsing history? Even more so since it's now an offence for an ISP to tell you there has been such a request as well. Obviously it is still illegal for anyone to intercept the communications of an MP....

Ah this would be how.....
The "live" surveillance of British web users' internet communications has been proposed in a draft technical paper allegedly prepared by the government.
This and other methods of surveillance would be made available under the Investigatory Powers (IP) Act, should the proposals go ahead.
The paper was allegedly leaked to civil liberties body the Open Rights Group, which received the document on 4 May.
The Home Office has not yet responded to a BBC request for comment.

Vote for Tessies group, paranoid megalomaniacs to the core. Vote to limit your own privacy, but at least you'll give her a stong hand for Brexit
