If you buy it form Dealer order to VIn, all you need to have is ICOM and program it OBD.
Hello,
I've brick an MEVD17.2.G ECU during tuning car (Bootmode). DME has permanent failure.
I've ordered from BMW Dealer a New DME, the dealer ask for VIN because ECU should be coded before shipping.
I've never replace DME on BMW F serie.
I prefer install DME without opening it... If not possible then I can open Ecu for bootmode and flash backup from old ECU (if no OTP AREA Conflict)
Who can explain me the right procedure for install the new DME? Just install it and start?
Need to program the sw with diagnostic tool (I've original AVDI or a friend with Ista)?
What Thinking for ISN? New Ecu come with the good ISN (because buy from VIN) or I need to copy ISN from old ecu to new ECU?
Thanks for any help!
Regards.

I use Original magicmotorsport X17 tool for read/write ecu in boot mode.

AVDI can't program that ECU, find someone with Rheingold.
Guided fault finding = Feature that many factory scan-tools have and real technician despise it.
For F series you will need ENET cable for programming. Plenty of diagrams online ,make it in 20min, and use existing Rheingold installation.

Hi!
Few News about my car.
I've install the new ECU from BMW, precoded from VIN.
Car Start OK but motor group is faulty with LIMP mode (the error is a fault from monitoring SW version BY CAS).
Then I should Update ECU SW because his SW don't match with actual I level from CAR.
I've test several flash with AVDI but I don't know wich SW version I need to install (test with the SW Version from original ECU don't function: car don't start and DME is not see in the autoscan, but only on programming mode). After reflashing the initial SW from new ECU, car start again but always in LIMP.
Now I don't know if I can sort this issue with AVDI tool, and how to know wich Sw I can/should write. Maybe another ECU need an update for matching the new ECU sw?
This is the infos from AVDI (old original ECU with failure and New Ecu who can run in limp):
Original DME with failure sgbm identifier version HWEL 19DE 10.19.01 BTLD 1A83 10.59.01 SWFL 1A84 19.230.01 SWFL 260B 19.230.219 CAFD 0B0A 00.46.01 New DME (LIMP) sgbm identifier version HWEL 19DE 10.19.01 BTLD 1A83 10.59.02 SWFL 1A84 29.10.00 SWFL 1A85 29.10.00 Thanks for any help!

why not let the dealer hook it up too they computer and program it for you.
think is faster and not so expences. i think was like 100 a 150 euro.
Best tool for bmw f series coding is esys. Just try code ecu to pick up Vehicle oredr from cas. If not, you must use istaP and flash it. To avoid problems i always put exstra charger to keep 14v.
BMW FOREVER
as said buy enet cable, its 10-15EU, or make yourself 30 min job
then u can program it with rheingold, or use ista/p
you are complicating easy thing
did you make a fault ore magic motorsport x17 because the always say to me if it is problem from tool the will pay ecu
I level is the same , the only difference is you need to code new ecu
Use esys and inject cafd acording to i-ievel
Search google for instructions
