BMW e39 cluster, strange LCD pixel problem

BMW E39. Any idea what would cause the pixels to show like this? The cluster won't show correctly any numbers or text. Problem is not in the ribbon nor in the LCD

Check the 5 back lights for the pixel display ,most likely 4 will be burned out if you don't see any numbers of text

You got red tamper dot and when you get that on the bench when testing and not hooked up to the cars lcm it means the eeprom data is corrupted or epprom is bad. What Hw and SW is the cluster?

Thanks! That's what I suspected. Owner said the LCD has been occasionally working fine.

That cluster is a X5 E53 cluster ,half tank on a E39 is only 30 ltr . Do you have Pa soft/ Bmw scanner because you can try to copy data from ews to Kombi and do a cluster reset and see if that brings it back to life. What year is this E39?

Thanks for the reply! Owner said it’s from E38 (wrong model in the topic). I’m not sure from what year model, Probably 2000.
I do not have those tools and only the cluster.

Thanks! I wrote the bin but unfortunately there is no change in the display. Maybe it's not corrputed eeprom but something else... maybe the cluster can’t access the EEPROM? The display looks the same even when EEPROM is desoldered.

Thanks! original EEPROM was okay. I reflowed the PCB and it fixed the problem.
