How far have you got?

There are different methods of installing software. Go to the software manager which is the easiest method. You can also download .deb files which are similar to .exe files in Windows.

Ubuntu Tweak is an excellent piece of software with with an update manager integrated as well as being able to add Launchpad PPA's (Up to date software from creators) without the hassle of doing it manually.

Don't give up trying!

You cant natively run windows programs under linux.
If you must run a windows program, you can try using wine.
Open a shell and enter: sudo apt-get install wine1.2
